Question 1.
Write the number name of the following numbers using commas as required.
26,506; 37,005; 47,623; 7,830; 80,008; 90,401
Solution:

Number Number Name
26,506 Twenty thousand five hundred six
37,005 Thirty-seven thousand five
47,623 Forty-seven thousand six hundred twenty-three
7,830 Seven thousand eight hundred thirty
80,008 Eighty thousand eight
90,401 Ninety thousand four hundred one

Question 2.
Arrange the following numbers in increasing order.
23,516; 52,823; 30,512; 30,125; 42,222
Solution:
Looking at the ten thousands place digits, 2, 5, 3, 3 and 4; we find that 5 > 4 > 3 = 3 > 2.
That means 52,823 is the greatest, 42,222 is the second largest number, and 23,516 is the smallest. Now, comparing the hundreds digits of the other two numbers, we find 5 > 1. So, 30,512 > 30,125.
Thus, the numbers are in increasing order as: 23,516; 30125; 30,512; 42,222; 52,823.

Question 3.
Riya was playing with numbers. She took the number 26,053 and swapped two digits. The new number she made was between 50,000 and 60,000. Which digits might she have swapped? What is the new number?
Solution:
Original number is 26,053. She needs to swap two digits so that the new number is between 50,0 and 60,000. So the new number must start with 5 (i.e., the ten-thousands digit must be 5). Swap 2 (ten-thousands place) and 5 (hundreds place): New number becomes: 56,023.
Thus, Riya swapped the digits 2 and 5, and the new number is 56,023.
