Tencent’s PUBG Mobile game has earned more than $1 billion revenue over the past one year with a growth rate of 540%, according to the latest report by Sensor Tower Store Intelligence. “PUBG Mobile has grown its gross revenue from approximately $25 million in August 2018 to slightly more than $160 million last month, an increase of about 540%,” it said.
The game has also increased its revenue 165% year-over-year on iOS outside China. Interestingly, the PUBG Mobile competitor Fortnite’s revenue has fallen by 36% during the same time. “Last month, they both grossed close to $25 million on Apple’s platform. If China is factored in (Fortnite has yet to launch there), PUBG Mobile earned 3.7 times more than Epic Games’ title last month on iOS,” the report added.
In March, PUBG Mobile turned one year-old. The Tencent game, ever since it was introduced on the mobile platform in March 2018, has risen to become one of the most popular games in recent times, especially in the Asian subcontinent.
The PUBG Mobile game have touched 400 million installs globally. The game has added more than 45 million first-time players in August, this is the largest ever new player based up from the 21 million first-time players that were added in July.

Fortnite, created by Tim Sweeney and released through EPIC Games Inc., is a free-to-play video game set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world. By any measure, it has been a huge success. The game’s format isn’t exactly out of left field, given that the industry is already ripe with these type of “shooter” games, but it did launch as an underdog with muted prospects. There are variations to the free-to-play business model, but everyone can play a fully functional game at no cost.
Fortnite, unlike its peers, was offered for free, which has proven to be the catalyst that has propelled its stunning, instantaneous, success. In the first 10 months, since its release in July 2017, Fortnite amassed an audience of 125 million players and netted $1.2 billion in revenue.
