NCERT Textbook Pages 96-97 – Daisy and Lou Go Shopping

Sapan dada asks … other method to calculate.
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 1
Solution:
Cost of 1 kg beans = ₹ 95
Since, 2 kg beans = 1 kg beans + 1 kg beans
Thus, the cost of 2 kg beans = Cost of 1 kg beans + cost of 1 kg beans = ₹ 95 + ₹ 95 = ₹ 190

Cost of 1 kg custard apple = ₹ 45;
Cost of 1 kg sapota = ₹ 70
Thus, the cost of 1 kg custard apple and 1 kg sapota = cost of 1 kg
custard apple + cost of 1 kg sapota = ₹ 45 + ₹ 70 = ₹ 115

Cost of 1 kg onion = ₹ 32;
Cost of 1 kg potato = ₹ 37
Thus, the cost of 1 kg onion and 1 kg potato = cost of 1 kg onion + cost of 1 kg potato = ₹ 32 + ₹ 37 = ₹ 69

Cost of 1 kg radish = ₹ 23;
Cost of 1 kg yam = ₹ 45
Thus, the cost of 1 kg radish and 1 kg yam = cost of 1 kg radish + cost of 1 kg yam = ₹ 23 + ₹ 45 = ₹ 68

Cost of 2 kg radish = cost of 1 kg radish + cost of 1 kg radish = ₹ 23 + ₹ 23 = ₹46
Cost of 2 kg papaya = cost of 1 kg papaya + cost of 1 kg papaya = ?65 + ?65 = ?130
Thus, the cost of 2 kg radish and 2 kg papaya = cost of 2 kg radish + cost of 2 kg papaya = ₹ 46 + ₹ 130 = ₹ 176

Cost of 2 kg onion = cost of 1 kg onion + cost of 1 kg onion = ₹ 32 + ₹ 32 = ₹ 64
Cost of 2 kg potato = cost of 1 kg potato + cost of 1 kg potato = ₹ 37 + ₹ 37 = ₹ 74
Thus, the cost of 2 kg onion and 2 kg potato = cost of 2 kg onion + cost of 2 kg potato = ₹ 64 + ₹ 74 = ₹ 138

What do you notice about these two costs?

  • 1 kg of onion and 1 kg of potato
  • 2 kg of onion and 2 kg of potato

Solution:
We notice that the cost of 2 kg of onion and 2 kg of potato is twice that of 1 kg of onion and 1 kg of potato.

Their mother buys things for ?163. What might she have bought? There is more than one possibility.
Solution:
Since, ₹ 163 = ₹ 45 + ₹ 95 + ₹ 23 = ₹ 70 + ₹ 70 + ₹ 23
So, the mother might have bought 1 kg custard apple, 1 kg beans, and 1 kg radish or 2 kg sapota and 1 kg radish or 1 kg beans, 1 kg yam and 1 kg radish.

Four naughty kids … Neela a ₹ 500.

What is the balance that they each got?
Solution:
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 5
= ₹ 21 + ₹ 21 = ₹ 42

Krishna paid ₹ 50 and bought 2 oranges for ₹ 42. He paid more than the cost.
Thus, balance = paid amount – cost of 2 oranges = ₹ 50 – ₹ 42 = ₹ 8.

Sudama paid ₹ 100 and bought 2 oranges for ₹ 42. He paid more than the cost.
Thus, balance = paid amount – cost of 2 oranges = ₹ 50 – ₹42 = ₹ 58

Mala paid ₹ 200 and bought 2 oranges for 2. She paid more than the cost.
Thus, balance = paid amount – cost of 2 oranges = ₹ 200 – ₹ 42 = ₹ 58

Neela paid MOO and bought 2 oranges for M2. She paid more amount
Thus, balance = paid amount – cost of 2 ; oranges = ₹ 500 – ₹ 42 = ₹ 58

Place the numbers 1-6 in the blanks in such a way that the sum on each side of the triangle is 9. No numbers should be repeated.
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 6
Solution:
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 7
1 + 6 + 2 = 2 + 4+ 3 = 3 + 5 + 1 = 9

Use the same numbers 1-6 and make the sum 10 on each side of the triangle.
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 8
Solution:
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 9
1 + 4 + 5 = 5 + 2 + 3 = 3 + 6 + 1 = 10

What other sums can you make with these 6 numbers?
Solution:
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 10
4 + 5 + 2 = 2 + 3 + 6 = 4 + 1 + 6 = 11
Thus the other sum can we make using these numbers is 11.

Can you make 12 on each side? Can you make 13?
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 11
Solution:
4 + 3 + 5 = 5 + 1 + 6 = 6 + 2 + 4 = 12
But we cannot make 13 using numbers 1-6 on each side of the triangle without repetition of the numbers. In a magic triangle, the numbers on each side must add to the same total. To get the highest possible side sum, we place the highest numbers (6, 5, 4) at the corners. Their sum, 6 + 5 + 4 = 15. Since corner numbers are counted twice, total corner sum = 15 × 2 = 30. Now, the sum of the remaining middle numbers = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6. So, maximum total side of sum 30 + 6 = 36. Therefore, maximum possible side sum = 36 + 3 = 12. Therefore, it is impossible to create a magic triangle with a sum of 13 using numbers 1-6 on each side of the triangle without repeating the numbers.

Question 1.
These books are in the community library of Wakanda village. Children borrow these books to read during their vacation.
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 40
(а) Rami read Panchatantra Tales during the summer vacation. Kesu read Akbar Birbal, Karadi Tales and Blue Umbrella. Who do you think read more? How many more pages?
(b) Sumi has read 23 pages of Adventures of Feluda. How many more pages are left to complete the book?
(c) Jaggu decides to read all the books listed here during his vacation. He has finished reading Swami and Friends, Akbar
Birbal and 50 pages of Feluda in 4 weeks. How many more pages does he have to read to finish reading all the books?
Solution:
(a) Rami read Panchatantra Tales. So, the number of pages read by Rami = 236
Kesu read Akbar Birbal, Karadi Tales and Blue Umbrella.

So, the number of pages read by Kesu
= 96 + 30 + 90
= 216

So, Rami read more pages.
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 32
Thus, Rami read 20 more pages than the Kesu.

(b) Sumi has read 23 pages till now.
Total number of pages in Adventures of Feluda = 128
Number of pages left to complete the bQok = 128 – 23 = 105
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 33

(c) Total number of pages in all books
= 179 + 236 + 30 + 96 + 90 + 128 = 759

Number of pages read by Jaggu = Total pages of Swami and Friends + Total pages of Akbar Birbal + 50 pages of Feluda = 179 + 96 + 50 = 325
So, remaining pages that Jaggu have to read to finish reading = 759 – 325 = 434

(a) How many passengers are there on the train when it leaves Dadri?
(b) Find the number of people who got off the train at Aligarh.
(c) Were there more people on the train in New Delhi or in Aligarh? How much more/less?
(d) How many people travelled altogether by the train?
Solution:
(a) People boarded train at Delhi = 894
People boarded train at Ghaziabad = 158
Total passengers at Ghaziabad after boarding train = 894 + 158 = 1052
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 35
Passengers left in train at Ghaziabad after alighted train = 1052 – 23 = 1029
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 36
Total passengers in train after boarding at Dadri = 1029 + 67 = 1096
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 37
Passengers in train after alighted at Dadri = 1096 – 75 = 1021
The Cleanest Village Class 4 Solutions Question Answer Maths Chapter 7 38
So, passengers in train when it leaves Dadri = 1021.

(b) Since, Aligrah is the last station of the journey.
So, Number of people who got off the train at Aligarh = Number of people in train when it leaves Dadri = 1021

(c) Number of people of New Delhi = 894
Number of people at Aligarh = 1021
So, at Aligarh there were more people in train than at New Delhi.

1. Find the number pair whose sum is the greatest.
2. Find the number pair whose sum is the smallest.
3. Find the number pair whose difference is the greatest.
4. Find the number pair whose difference is the smallest.
Solution:
Yes, we have to check every number pair to find out the sum and difference because every pair has different numbers, so their sum and difference is also different.
Number Pairs in the given grid are as follows: (35, 100), (100,179), (179,68), (111,185), (185,143), (143,54), (300,48), (48,225), (225,190), (54,321),

(225.63) , (68,54), (54,190), (190,167).
Total Number of pairs in the given grid = 24

1. The number pair whose sum is the greatest is (225, 190) as their sum is 225 + 190 = 415.
2. The number pair whose sum is the smallest is (68, 54) as their sum is 68 + 54 = 122.
3. The number pair whose difference is the greatest is (48, 321), as the difference is 321-48 = 273.
4. The number pair whose difference is the smallest is (68, 54), as the difference is 68 – 54 = 14.
