Class 4 Maths Notes Chapter 11 – Class 4 Fun with Symmetry Notes

→ An object has symmetry if it can be divided into two identical pieces. It means that one side of an object looks just like the other side when you split it in half. A figure is said to be symmetrical about a line if the portion of the figure on one side of that line perfectly matches or exactly overlaps with the portion on the other side.

→ A figure is said to be symmetrical if it can be folded along an imaginary line to form two ha1vs that fit exactly over each other. This imaginary line is called the line of symmetry.

→ Symmetry focuses on line symmetry (or mirror symmetry), where a shape can be folded along a line so that both halves match exactly. The line of the fold is called the line of symmetry.

→ The lines of symmetry can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.

→ A reflection is like a mirror image. The figure does not change on reflection. The only change is in the orientation.

→ Reflection can be on vertical or horizontal or diagonal depending on the position of the mirror line.

→ Tessellation or tiling is a pattern of geometric shapes that fit together perfectly or fill a 2D space without any gaps or overlaps.
